Stadium probe and the Upton Park effect, plus Westfield lands Team GB

Well, our news service has gone live today and it is time to sit back for a few minutes and return to all things Olympics.

I hear there has been another small but significant knock-on effect from all the unpleasantness surrounding West Ham United’s battle with Tottenham Hotspur to anchor the Olympic Stadium.

While the various probes are carried out into West Ham’s selection as preferred bidder, I am told that the club is having to hold back a little on the search for a developer for its historic home at Upton Park Stadium in Newham, London.

The club has been seeking expressions of interest from potential developers of the site which could be vacated and open to redevelopment by the summer of 2014.

Apparently a well-known supermarket has expressed its interest. It may have a bit of a wait before talks get serious, however …

In other Olympic news, Westfield is to accommodate Team GB House for the London 2012 Games at its Stratford City site – so not too much of a journey for all of our athletes. I understand that Team Australia is likely to be housed there too. That could be quite a party.
